Boston Chronicle offices are attacked.
October 28, 1769
A mob of some 1,000 people, including members of the Sons of Liberty destroys the printing press of the Loyalist newspaper for its criticism of Boston’s boycott of goods from England. Editor John Mein escapes by firing a pistol and and hiding in eaves of the guardhouse opposite the Town House. He subsequently flees to England, while his friends continue to edit and publish the newspaper.
